A chin implant, also known as a genioplasty, is a surgical procedure used to reshape the chin area of the face. It can be used to make the chin appear more aesthetically pleasing and in proportion to the rest of the face. Chin implants are typically done in a hospital or outpatient setting under local anesthesia, meaning the patient is awake during the procedure but numbed in the area being worked on. During the procedure, an incision is made either in the mouth or under the chin and the implant is inserted. The implant is typically made from a material such as silicone or a biocompatible material and is shaped to fit the patient’s individual needs. After the implant is in place, it is secured with stitches and the incision is closed.
